Welcome to Woodrush Community High School and Sixth Form Centre. Our website is intended to be a window into the school providing you with an insight into our daily life, ethos and priorities. We hope that the site contains a lot of useful information for parents/carers, students and staff as well as other visitors from our community - if you cannot find what you are looking for here, please let us know and we will do our best to provide it.
Woodrush Community High School is a dynamic and thriving community of learners. We are located on the southern outskirts of Birmingham and are a Worcestershire maintained secondary school for students from 11 to 19 years old. We recognise that all adults and young people are learners, learning in different kinds of ways and with different aptitudes and skills. We have our sights firmly focused on the future while being rooted in traditional values of courtesy, co-operation and caring for others. We are a heavily oversubscribed and fast improving school - student results are now in the top 25% of schools nationally, as are our attendance and inclusion rates. In April 2008, OFSTED graded us as 'good with outstanding features.' Their report is available on the site. They commented that, "The combination of good teaching, good and improving curriculum, and outstanding support for learners has ensured standards have risen sharply since the previous inspection." They also said that Woodrush is, "Improving strongly and is effectively ensuring students of all abilities and backgrounds make good progress. All of the performance indicators for the school are climbing. As one parent put it, ‘Our daughter is extremely happy, and our son starts in September and can’t wait!’" This view was confirmed by our gaining two Leading Aspect Awards that recognise our Innovative Professional Development and Achieving Excellence for all through Care, Advice and Guidance in January 2009. Additionally we have just been named as one of the top 5 most improved Specialist Technology Colleges in the country for improvements between 2005-2008 and for also having high Jenson Contextual Value Added scores in the 2008 examinations.
In June 2009, we received a subject inspection from Ofsted focusing on our English department. The resulting report graded us as ‘good’ with ‘standards above average’. The inspector commented upon ‘relationships in lessons being very good’ and on the ‘exceptional range of interventions and literacy support which strongly enhance the curriculum and aid students’ achievements’ which make our curriculum ‘outstanding’ overall.
We are proud of the progress we have made in providing an ever better service to our community. To continue our journey, we continually seek out ways to improve - we therefore welcome any suggestions you might have.
We hope you enjoy this site and find it useful.
