PSHE

PSHE Provision

PSHE is personal, social, health and economic education, and it encompasses three main areas of development and wellbeing; living in the wider world, relationships and health and wellbeing. Citizenship and careers also contribute to the complete curriculum. Students are taught PSHE once a fortnight, and they receive a balanced and broad curriculum which promotes spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development. This empowers and prepares our students for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences throughout their lives.

Tutor Time

During morning form time, activities linked to the theme of the week, key character traits, British Values and topical news stories are covered by students with their form tutor. These sessions are designed to encourage discussion and reflection on the wider world and their own personal development.

PSHE Days

Throughout the year each year group will also participate in at least one full PSHE day where they will be off timetable from their normal lessons. The aim of these days is to give students opportunities to demonstrate and improve key character traits such as leadership, organisation, initiative, communication and teamwork. PSHE days have included Year 11 Futures Day, Year 7 Teambuilding, Year 10 Enterprise and Year 8 Innovation Day amongst others.

PSHE Opportunities

We believe that the best way to develop character is through giving students opportunities where these key character traits will grow. For this reason, we have a large number of different types of extracurricular activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, that develop teamwork, resilience and creativity. We offer many chances for student leadership through the School Council, Prefects and Junior Prefect and Sports leaders. Students also actively engage in a number of charity initiatives (including raising a phenomenal £8,300 for Cancer Research) and also take an active part in key decisions for the school such as the appointment of new staff.
